Animatic

As part of our planning and research we had to draw our own storyboard of how we want the music video to look like and make it into an animatic. Below is our finished work of what we want our music video to look like;

Possible Locations

As part of our research I have considered possible locations that we could shoot the music video in;

1. Central London - One of the main locations we want to film is Central London as it is the greatest city in the world and literally on our doorstep making it amazing scenery.

. Hyde Park - I really want to film in Hyde Park as it is one of my favourite places and is also amazing scenery for the music video. It is probably the best and safest park I know to film around in this area.

3. Harrods, Oxford Street - As Harrods is the biggest store in Oxford Street and our video has a slightly rebellious edge to it, we really want to film outside Harrods doing silly things to give the video a "fun" image.

4. A Stage - We also need to film on a stage likely to be our own school stage so we can flashback to us lip syncing the song to make it one of the conventions of the music video.

More Magazine Advert Analysis

As we have all taken different roles in the production of the music video, digipak and magazine advert. I have been assigned to plan and make the magazine advert so I have done some more research on how to make a magazine advert. I have identified two different aspects that are most important in making a music video. Firstly, you have to gain the attention of the music video so it has to be bright and eye catching, you then need to realise that the majority of your audience will not take notice of the advert. In fact statistically, only about 10% will even notice the advert, you then need to make sure you keep the attention of the 10% and ask what they will want to know from the product and what problems they will have and identify how your product will sell them.

You also have to make sure the magazine advert raises the profile of the other parts of the coursework mentioning the video and the digipak. This means that the vibe and colours that you have been creating in the music video and digipak need to be continued in the advertisement, with this in mind I plan to use an image of the band from our music video and then maybe a mention of the video, the song and the actual artist's The Silent Film Project.

Mood Board

Today, I did a mood board to show some of our ideas for where we want to shoot the video;

Detailed Outline of Ideas

After holding a group meeting and discussing how we would want the video to look like, we came up with a detailed plan.

We want the video to be split into two parts, a scene where we are performing the song live on stage and us running around London in a childlike manner in order to create a sense of fun to the video. We plan to film the stage part of the school stage borrowing guitar's of the Music Department and we then plan to visit all of the famous landmarks in Central London to provide good scenery and recognised backgrounds for our audience. We then plan to have certain scenes in the video where we are singing in London to mix the video about and create an interesting looking music video.

Magazine Advert Analysis

As part of the coursework is creating a magazine advert to attract a bigger audience, we also had to look into magazine adverts created by big artists.

Below is two magazine adverts I have analysed and made notes on what is good about them;

After looking at these two contrasting magazine adverts, I have identified a few aspects that the magazine advert should aim to include. We should aim to give it a vibe that shows what the song and band is about in order to attract our target audience. I have also noticed that we should aim to make the magazine advert as colourful and eye catching as possible in order to attract a larger audience. I also think that it should be as informative about the music video and digipak also in order to increase popularity on all 3 aspects of the coursework.

Analysis of student digipak/magazine advert/ video combination

In today's lesson, we looked at the combination of all three tasks in the coursework from past students as we looked at a very good example which I shall now analyse. We looked at various different people's work and I picked this one as the best compared to the other's I looked at.

Firstly we should look at the music video by this group as then we can compare how the magazine advert and digipak relate to the song.

The video works well with the constant changing outfits and the performances from the girls make the video look better as they really reflect the song well with a very nice studio in the background. My favourite part of this video is the shot with the high heels which looks really interesting and is very clever edited.

Next, we'll look at the magazine advert which links in well with the video with the same colour scheme and pictures from the video to link in it with the song as well so the song is immediately is recognised.

Below is also images of the digipak which work really well with the video and the advert to create a mellow, relaxing image while maintaing a slight fun and upbeat look on the cover showing the girls as a band. I feel they do well to create two contrasting moods on different panels of the digipak.

Digipak Analysis

As part of the coursework is also to make our own digipak for our music video, I began to research digipak's for our coursework and found different aspects that make our digipak and analysed it below;

Famous Art Album

As part of the research of making the digipak, we had to research an album cover of a famous artist. After looking around, I was very impressed with the album cover of 'Fame' by Chris Brown which I analysed in this picture below with notes on why the cover is effective and impressive.

Digipak Analysis - Example

Here's an example of a digipak and I have analysed what is good about the digipak and how it relates to the artist. I did this exercise in order to get an idea of what my digipak should look like.
